What a doozie of a walking weekend with 24 miles of heat and hills all over San Francisco. I say my training walks are on pavement, footpaths, hills, stairs, trails and to pack your sense of adventure... this weekend I delivered all of the above!
Saturday we met at the Bryant Street Sports
Basement and it was hot even at 9am. We walked in an amazing 12 mile loop that
took us over Potrero Hill, up & around
Bernal Heights Park, through the Glen Park neighborhood, a steady climb UP
O'Shaughnessy Hill Blvd., down along Portola, over Kite Hill, onward through
the Castro to Dolores Park and into the Mission.
The highlight of Saturday's route was a site visit to the Charlotte Maxwell Complimentary Clinic! They provide FREE alternative medical treatments to over 800 low-income women with cancer each year. CMCC offers relief from the terrible side effects of cancer and its treatments — pain, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite — and enhance the immune systems and the quality of life of its clients. They offer Bodywork, Chinese and Western herbs, a food pantry, transportation and end-stage home care,

Sunday
was another sunny, sunny day and we took full advantage by walking up Arguello
Blvd. out of the Presidio, through the ever changing NOPA neighborhood, up to
Glen Park, zig zagging our way over the Randall Museum. We walked around the
Corona Heights Parks with its craggy rocks and back down the trail on the
backside - who knew there were challenging trails like this smack in the middle
of the city! To cap our hilly adventurous weekend we walked up and
over the hills of Divisadero for our grand finale.

WEEKLY INSPIRATION - WHAT WE ARE
In the past few weeks members of our community have expressed concerns regarding comments posted on Facebook, emails
and feelings of tension between people participating in various
events. Some people have been staying away from training walks due to the
negativity. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone "What We Are.”
We are a community of kind and caring people who have come
together to make a difference in the lives of people with breast cancer by
participating in breast cancer fundraising walks. We are welcoming
and all-inclusive. Our
community is an incubator of positivity, compassion and kindness. We foster a safe place where powerful relationships with other women can florish. We see
possibility all around us.
We are not a community of
negativity. Remember our credo: "No whining." Negativity
keeps us from helping one another to shine: to train without injury, to make
life-long friends from among strangers, to raise lots of money for breast
cancer, and to push beyond our self-imposed limits.
Let's support one
another's efforts without
reserve because we are all working toward the same goal of a world
without breast cancer as a life threatening disease; we are just taking
different paths to get there.
ONWARD! We have important work to do!
