breast cancer emergency fund site visit

Another Sunday, another cold, foggy morning for our walk. Today we had a great route planned that was to take us by our event beneficiary, the Breast Cancer Emergecy Fund offices. Such a special honor and treat.

Nothing like starting the day with some stairs! Let's get it girls.

Sometimes it is fun to go to the touristy things in your own city, like curvy Lombard!
Event at 8:00 am the tourists were out taking photos.

Hard to see off in the distance, the America's Cup Pavilion off in the distance.

Heading up to Coit Tower.

And then back down the Greenwich Stairs.

Good to know for future route planning!

Lizelle noticed this sign so we threw caution to the wind and went down a new way which was super, super steep but fun!

Trina trying to keep her eyes down on her feet!

After a break at the Ferry Plaza we made our way along Howard. There are some amazing murals along the side streets here.

I love this one so much - famous faces.

Making out way to our extra special destination-
the offices of the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund on, where else, Grace Street!

A wall of information and pamphlets for clients. BCEF shared offices with the AIDS Emergency Fund.

We got to sit and take a break while hearing about BCEF, their clients, how they are funded and the work they do every day.

We were greeted with hugs, snacks, hydration, bathrooms and doggie kisses.

Last year BCEF helped XXX women.
BCEF has never had a waiting list and had never turned anyone away for lack of funds. Their goal is to never have this happen.
There is an annual cap of $600 per client, but no lifetime cap.
The average BCEF client monthly income is $750.
Checks are cut Tuesdays and Thursday. If someone applies on a Friday, the check goes out the following Tuesday.
Checks are paid directly to the debtor: landlord, utility, etc.
Case workers look at the full financial picture of each client to ensure funds are used resourcefully and that all possible avenues for alternate support are explores.
A prospective client need only prove residence in one of the counties they serve, not citizenship, to be eligible for help.

Made a new friend! "Rub my belly!"

Well look at that! Our event is listed in the Annual Report under he Gifts of $25,000 and above.
We share some impressive company in this category.

THANK YOU BCEF for meeting us on the weekend to tell us more about what you do everyday to help people in need. We are so proud to partner with you!! As we were finishing our training walk, we were fired up & doubly inspired to fundraise on your behalf to help you continue to serve your clients - no waiting period and never having to turn away a person in need.
